Blog #6 Online Presence

Online Presence

I think it is safe to say that Donald Trump is phenomenal at making his presence known and being known on social media is no exception. When simply google searching Trump’s name the first thing that pops up is his twitter account. I don’t know about you but when googling the president of the United States name I would assume something else would come up with higher importance than Trump’s twitter.

Through out the election Trump was notorious for his non-apologetic tweets. Unlike other presidents Trump uses his social media as a way to bypass the “dishonest” press. The press has ridiculed Trump since the day he announced he was running for president so being able to speak directly to the people is perfect for this situation. A lot of American’s have grown to love the concept of direct, blunt messages from Trump on twitter. Trump’s social media may be a little more casual than presidents of the past but it has seem to really win over voters. Something about seeing a candidate tweeting and being blunt makes him seem more relatable.

One of the positives about Trump on social media is that he is very candid and honest. At the same time this is also one of Trump’s largest negatives. You can tell when Trump tweets it goes from his lips to his tweet with often little to no evaluation of how what he is saying is going to come off. It sometimes makes for some pretty cringe-worthy tweets. Some of the tweets Trump posts remind me of a child arguing with their mother. For example, the terms “ Not fair” is used way to often.

I think it would be best if Trump could find a way to maintain his candid self on twitter but also have an editor and social media specialist look over his tweets before he posts them. I think it would help prevent Trump from posting tweets that seem more of an emotional rant and a public announcement.

As you could guess Donald Trump’s most popular social media cite is his personal twitter most likely for the reasons listed above. When looking online at Trump’s tweets I found them very amusing. Trump has a great sense of humor and a lot of his tweets make me physically laugh. Another popular social media cite made after Donald Trump is the “Fake Donald Trump” twitter. It is a satirical social media cite making fun of Trump and it have racked up quite a few followers.

  1. Megan,
The statement you made about Trumps honesty when he tweets is spot on. His "candid" and "honesty" in his Tweets are perhaps what many Americans enjoy about Donald Trump. I can't think of anybody in American politics who has no filter in what they write on Social Media, let alone Press Conferences, Interviews, Speeches, etc. He tweets multiple times a day, way more than his predecessor. Its been Trumps style his whole life, before his political career to be outspoken and approach things differently. Also, the first picture of Trump's face you posted made me laugh! Perfect for this blog and what you talked about.

  2. I loved the way you integrated some of Trumps best tweets into your 6th blog. You made this feel like a legit blog and not just some project that we are required to do. I totally agree with you that Trumps tweets are hilarious and can give a good comedic relief to my day when I see them. Unfortunately, this isn't the type of humor I would want from our president but nonetheless here we are. Other than that, great job Megan.
